Researchers at Technion, the Israel Institute of Technology, have developed a prototype face mask which can be cleaned using electricity provided by a common smartphone charging cable.
The mask has an internal layer of carbon fibre. This layer is heated using an electrical current so destroying any pathogen, including coronavirus, on the surface of the mask. A patent application for the device has been filed in the United States and developers hope to make it commercially available for around $1.
